About Us

Purpose |
This website exists to provide parents and friends
with information on Youth Baseball, Softball and Football in
Pelham, Alabama. I have volunteered my time and abilities to
create and maintain this site, but I could not have done any of it
without the help of the many coaches and parents involved Pelham
Youth Programs. |

History |
In 2000, my son played his first
year of Dixie Youth Baseball. I discovered a website created by Jeff
Johns of Helena, Alabama where Dixie Youth teams could send pictures and
have them posted. Most of the pictures were from Alabaster, Helena and
Pelham. I took pictures of several games and had them posted to share
with others.
When the 2001 season began, I had my
digital camera ready, but the website was no longer available. I
contacted Jeff and he graciously allowed me to use the domain name PelhamDixieYouth.com. My company allowed me to host the site on their
server, so all I had to do was create the web pages! That first year was a
trial and error, but there were so many helpful parents! I mostly took
pictures of the Minor AA division teams when my son’s team played them.
I attempted to take some of other divisions and even ventured into a
little Softball! We soon realized that while parents enjoyed seeing
their children’s pictures, they needed a central place to find
schedules, scores and division standings, so the website began to take
shape.
In the Spring of 2002, I endeavored
to have a more complete and detailed website for both Dixie Youth
Baseball and Dixie Softball. While my son was in Minor AA baseball, my
daughter began her first year of Softball as a Sweetee. Wow, was my
life about to change! With much help from Billy Crandall and
Diane Matthews, the website became the best source of information for
Pelham Baseball and Softball. There were many pictures of the teams
that my son and daughter played on, but I gave a special effort to
attend other division games to take pictures. There were also many
parents who sent pictures to share and they were very much appreciated!
Collectively, there were over 4,000 pictures from the 2002 season
posted!
Fall of 2002 brought Football Season
to Pelham and to my family when my son decided to play for the first
time. Since I was going to attend these games, I decided to include
Football on the website. I reserved the new domain name of
PelhamSports.com and attemptd to provide as much information
as possible. Many thanks to Brian Snyder and Bob Sherer for their help… from schedules to explaining the rules of Over the
Mountain Youth Football (OTMYF), they were always willing to answer my
many questions! I soon discovered that taking pictures of football
is hard! They move so fast and the lighting is awful, especially
at those late night games. With Football Season comes Cheerleaders! I
included all cheerleader information I was able to gather and attempted
to take their pictures as well. I found that the cheerleaders
practice almost as much as the football team, and definitely as hard or
harder.
The UCA Cheerleader Competition held in November was an exciting event
to attend. I was proud to watch and take pictures of those Pelham girls
cheering their way to First Place!
As another season is coming up,
there are a lot of features that I would like to add to this site and
hopefully will get them all one day! I appreciate your suggestions and
your understanding that this is a completely voluntary job that has
progressed into the site it is today. We look forward to many more
years of Pelham Sports!
